Beverly Massey, National President

Welcome to the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 National Website. We are proud of our organization and hope you will find our story of interest and thus encouraging to those of lineal descent to seek admission.

The Civil War was from 1861-1865. It involved different aspects and lives and still impacts us today, over 140 years later. Union soldiers came from small towns, cities and counties to form up Units. Because of this, they knew each other and most were related. After the close of the war, many moved West to start fresh and in so doing, lost the support group of their Unit. The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was founded which allowed Union soldiers to get the support they needed; whether it be medical or just camaraderie. As the ranks of the GAR dwindled, they looked to younger generations to carry on. Thus, the Allied Orders was formed. The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 is one of the five orders. Our membership is gained only through direct lineal descent. Our mission - honor the flag our Fathers saved.

At times, it seems we have distanced ourselves from what molded our country as many claim ancestry on both sides of the War. We now battle with the encroaching progress of time upon our battlefields, monuments and cemeteries. We work hard to save these from disappearing in time. We work to aid our Veterans from all the wars. Sadly, we are still at war and our young men and women will not be forgotten.

We welcome you to join our organization to honor your Union veteran(s). However, if you aren't of direct lineal descent and can't join, we encourage you to join any patriotic organization that honors this great country.

In Fraternity, Charity and Loyalty

Beverly Waltz Massey
National President 2007-2008
