National President's Message
Dear Sisters,
It is with sincere thanks and appreciation for electing me National President at the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865 National Convention in Syracuse, New York.
I look forward to serving this next year and attending the following ceremonies: Remembrance Day in Gettysburg in November, Lincoln’s Birthday Memorial, Washington, D.C., in February; Lincoln Death Day, Springfield, Illinois in April, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers of the Civil War, Arlington National Cemetery in May, some of the Military Academies in May, and several Department Conventions.
The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865 (corporation) is an Internal Revenue Tax code 501(C)3 organization formed by and for the daughters of Union Veterans to perpetuate the memories of their direct lineal descendants who served in the Civil War, to honor their loyalty and their unselfish sacrifices to preserve the Union, and to keep alive the history of those who participated in that heroic struggle for the maintenance of our free government.
The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865 is a unique organization and one to be proud to be a member, being the only women’s organization of the Allied Orders requiring direct lineal descent from a Union veteran. It is with humbleness that I serve as National President for the coming year.
In Fraternity, Charity and Loyalty,
Barbara Waltz Stone
National President 2011-2012
